Liora is the younger of two princesses in a medieval city-state, and she loves Ron, the knight she promoted to serve her personally. Ron only has eyes for her older sister Seraphina, who is proud and envious, and after giving him everything for nothing Liora sees how little real affection there is in the palace, even within her own family. A contract owes the evil dragon a royal bride. Liora offers herself instead of Seraphina, and her self-serving father the king is privately glad to let her go. Before setting out she breaks her knight bond with Ron, hands him over to Seraphina and lets her old feelings go. When the bugles sound for the sacrifice, Ron realises with horror that it is Liora walking to the dragon's lair, and the regret sets in. The dragon, Kaelion, is a feared legend and secretly the Sun God, cursed by a dark witch.

Unloved by Ron, the knight she chose, Liora takes her sister Seraphina's place as the bride owed to the evil dragon, breaks the knight bond and leaves Ron to Seraphina.
