The setup

Rian Calder was the pride of Maple Kingdom until he disappeared at five. The boy who comes home years later is treated as an embarrassment: Duke Aldric's household mocks him, handles him like refuse and pushes him out. Nobody in the family suspects where he has been. The Holy Dragon brought him up in hiding, and he has learned a banned dragon spell that makes him the last person alive who can speak with dragons. He keeps all of it to himself. Then half-orcs menace the kingdom and ask for Princess Isabel as a bride, and Rian signs up for the tournament held for her hand, beating the half-orc fighters one after another. Harder opponents wait: the Starspeaker Aether and the general at the head of the Undead Legion. ReelShort's character list also names his harsh, rank-obsessed father, Duke Aldric Calder, and Reynard Calder, the half-brother the duke prefers, a knight.

Full story (spoilers)

Missing from the age of five, Rian comes back to a family that scorns him, while hiding that the Holy Dragon raised him and taught him a banned dragon spell. When half-orcs menace Maple Kingdom and ask for Princess Isabel as a bride, he fights in the tournament for her and knocks them out one by one. ReelShort's text stops on open questions: can he get past Aether and the Undead Legion's general, show what his family did to him, win Isabel and claim the dragon speaker title.
