The setup

Adam Hawke ranks as the best secret agent anywhere, a man who has put away crooked politicians and gangsters and been called many things, but never a father. After one night with a kidnapped heiress, Vivian Decapri, he learns years later that he has a daughter, Milly, and that Raymond Strauss, a power-hungry billionaire as clever as Adam, is set on ruining everyone he loves. Vivian will let him into Milly's life on one condition: he becomes her nanny. So the best agent alive works as hired help, hiding who he is from the two people he most wants to win over while corrupt suitors, mafia strongmen and Strauss close in. The fun is the collision of skills: a man trained to disarm gunmen has to learn that coaching a child on throwing a fork, or being laughed at as the nanny, takes another kind of control.

Posing as a bartender, Adam Hawke takes down the armed men who dragged in the heiress Vivian Decapri, kidnapped for ransom. He frees her and they spend a night together, but a call from his contact Roscoe pulls him away before morning. Eight years later he learns he has a daughter, Milly. Vivian refuses his apology and offers one way in: he becomes Milly's nanny. His first days go badly with her assistant Margo, but he bonds with Milly by teaching her to throw properly. When the Abruzzo family arrive to squeeze money out of Vivian's charity, Adam steps in, Vivian throws him out, and he has Roscoe erase the Abruzzos' identities, money and connections.
