The setup

The Beast King Astur is a ruined man when this story opens: there is poison in his body and his legs no longer carry him. The bride sent to him is not the one promised. Sylph, a simple-minded young woman, goes to the wedding in her sister's place. What turns things around is her honesty rather than any plan. Astur grows fond of her, wild animals settle when she is near, and a sacred power to heal that she carries pulls him back from dying and puts him on his feet again. Her own clear thinking returns as well, and once it does, the sister has a crime to answer for. NetShort's own translated titles stress the same turn: the Korean one reads roughly "In my sister's place, I cured the Beast King", the Chinese one "healing the Beast King in the name of love". It is a fantasy contract-marriage romance told in 40 episodes, tagged substitute bride, contract lovers and alternate history, with a first episode that alone runs over four minutes.
