The setup

Ronan is the Alpha King of the Northern Wolf Moon Pack. Tracking down a hidden threat, he is poisoned and left for dead in a frozen wasteland. A five-year-old human girl comes across him. Mia has been cast off by her family and shunned by everyone else, but she understands every living creature, so she can tell how much the poison hurts Ronan. Her kindness gives the lonely king his first taste of home, and because she longs for a family, he adopts her and carries her to Wolf Moon Castle. The pack is split over a human child among them, and suspicion grows. Mia keeps using her gift to warn of avalanches, to expose lies and to draw out the truth, and she wins the trust of the Northern Pack.
